Meet Lee Fields
Soul singer and funk aficionado Lee Fields emerged in the early 1970s, bearing an uncanny resemblance (both vocally and physically) to renowned singer/songwriter and dancer James Brown. Though Fields (who earned the nick name Little JB (Little James Brown) struggled to achieve mainstream success for some years, he would finally find his stride after developing a more distinct and personal style of his own, finding a new following in the retro-soul movement. The singer would make a name for himself amongst die-hard funk fans releasing a series of hard-hitting singles recorded for various small labels throughout the '70s. After a lengthy hiatus, Fields returned in the 1990s as a soul/blues singer, emerging as leader of the so-called deep funk movement with 1999's Let's Get a Groove On. The album was the first in a series of releases that often equaled or outdid his early work in popularity. Fields' most recent work has been with The Expressions, including the albums Faithful Man (2012), Special Night (2017), and It Rains Love (2019).
