Jidenna hit the scene in 2015, capturing audiences attention with his sharp style, and hybrid R&B/rap sound he referred to as "swank." He released his debut single "Classic Man" that year, though it would take some time for the track to breakthrough into the mainstream. Three months later, it hit the Billboard Hot 100, eventually garnering a double platinum certification from the RIAA and a Grammy nod. Jidenna went on to release a string of stylistically varied singles before the arrival of his debut album The Chief in 2017. The album was met with critical praise, debuting within the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 and peaking at number 16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. His sophomore full-length effort 85 to Africa arrived in August 2019.
