Located in the heart of the North Loop Theatre District, Goodman Theatre is the oldest active theater and largest not-for-profit theater in the city of Chicago. Since it opened in 1925, Goodman Theatre has played a major role in the Chicago theater scene and contributed to the development of local artists. It even won the Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1992. To ensure a state-of-the-art experience for its patrons, Goodman Theatre moved to a new location in 2000, with August Wilson’s play King Hedley II as its inaugural show. The new complex also encompasses Owen Theatre, a smaller 450-seat venue perfect for intimate performances.

Goodman Theatre features three levels of seating, a removable center-stage floor and a towering fly space to accommodate larger-than-life productions. Locals know the theater for its annual production of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol, a holiday tradition for many Chicago families. The theater also regularly hosts Broadway favorites and world premieres of new plays.

Thanks to its downtown location, there are plenty of restaurants, shops and hotels within easy walking distance. The venue is close to major CTA rail lines and bus routes. It is also accessible via I-55, I-90/94, I-290 and Lake Shore Drive, with multiple parking lots in close proximity.
