Durham Performing Arts Center is one of the newer venues in North Carolina's Research Triangle, but it has already made a name for itself as a destination for arts lovers. Since opening in 2008, the 2,700-seat venue has hosted a diverse array of performances per year, ranging from comedy to concerts to Broadway productions.

Durham Performing Arts Center opened with a sold-out performance by blues legend B.B. King on Nov. 30, 2008. Since then, it has hosted shows by ’80s superstars Duran Duran, folk rockers the Indigo Girls and R&B singer the Weeknd, among others. While the venue typically favors concert performances, it hosts a variety of events each year. Audiences have enjoyed Broadway productions, including The Book Of Mormon, and performances by comedian Jerry Seinfeld and writer David Sedaris.

The center is located just off Durham Freeway in the American Tobacco Historic District. It is easily accessible from Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Cary and Raleigh via I-40, I-540 and I-85. There are thousands of parking spaces within a quarter mile of the venue, and a courtesy shuttle is available for attendees who prefer not to walk.

Visitors will find several hotel options near the arena, and restaurants and bars are plentiful. Many eateries offer preshow and postshow specials to accommodate visitors. Show nights can be very busy, so reservations are strongly encouraged. Adventurous diners can enjoy the flavors of New Zealand at the Burger Bach gastropub, and families should make it a point to visit the Nasher Museum on the Duke University campus, which offers art exhibits that range from medieval to contemporary.
