John Kander and Fred Ebb’s now-classic score, Chicago, is a steamy and fast paced musical tribute to "murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery—all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts.” The musical made its debut in 1975 on Broadway and ran for 936 performances through 1977 at the 46th Street Theatre. A West End debut took place two years later, producing six-hundred performances, and it was not until 1996 that the American musical made a Broadway revival, trailed by a West End revival the following year. Both revivals hold records for their longevity, and the Broadway revival is second only the ‘The Phantom of The Opera’ as the longest-running Broadway show in history. Based on a 1926 play by the same name by Maurine Watkins, Chicago tells the satirical story of crimes, murder and corruption surrounding Chicago’s criminal justice system of the 1920’s.
