The Week’s Top Performers & The Singles That Made Them Famous

Adam Young | June 22, 2017
Music singles that made artists famous.
For the past month, the top concerts in terms of ticket sales have remained pretty steady — Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga and Harry Styles have consistently topped the list. Considering they all recently announced upcoming mega tours, fans are scrambling to save a spot to hear their favorite songs. So, what are those songs? In this post we’ll look at the songs that made these pop stars so famous.

Katy Perry

This pop diva has had her fair share of chart toppers, but there’s one that remained at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks straight, back in the day when fans were just starting to emerge. In 2008, "I Kissed A Girl" hit number one on the billboard charts for 7 weeks. Featured on Kay Perry’s One of the Boys album, it’s no surprise the album went on to sell more than 1.5 million copies.

Since then, Katy Perry hasn’t let her fans down. In 2010, she held the number one Billboard position for six weeks thanks to "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg. That same year, "Firework" also held the number one spot for 4 weeks. In 2011, "E.T." hung on for five weeks. Considering that just scratches the surface of her hits, Katy Perry fans are going to have plenty of opportunities to sing along at her upcoming Witness Tour.

Bruno Mars

Fans heading to Bruno Mars concerts aren’t just looking for a concert — they’re expecting a dance party. And why not? In 2014, "Uptown Funk" held the number 1 slot on the Official UK Charts for seven weeks, giving fans plenty of time to perfect their dance moves.

It’s not the only time Bruno Mars has shot to the number one position — in 2010, "Just The Way You Are" came in at number 1 for two weeks while "Nothin’ On You" lasted one week. In 2011, "Grenade" also held it down for two weeks.

The 24K Magic World Tour kicks off in July in the ultimate dance venue: T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ed Sheeran

Move over pop stars, Ed Sheeran’s history on the Official UK Charts is crazy. Just this year, "Shape of You" topped the chart for a whopping 14 weeks. In 2014, "Thinking Out Loud" topped for two weeks — that same year, "Sing" claimed the spot for one week. Hits like "The A Team" and "Bloodstream" piqued at number one in fans’ hearts, but never did quite make it to number one. Instead, they rose to the third and second spots, respectively.

After a brief respite, Ed Sheeran fans are ready to see him play all the old — and new — favorites live during his upcoming U.S. tour, which begins June 29.

Lady Gaga

It all began in 2009, when "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 list. That same year, "Bad Romance" reached number two and held it for seven weeks. By 2011, "Born This Way" dominantly claimed the number one spot for six weeks, with "The Edge of Glory" following behind in a close third.

After her show-stopping Half Time Super Bowl show this past February, Lady Gaga announced that fans around North America will have a chance to experience yet another Gaga show. This time for the Joanne World Tour, set to begin Aug. 1 in Vancouver.

Harry Styles

Just recently, Harry Styles rose to the top of the Billboard Artist 100 list. Yet in terms of songs, the young One Direction original has yet to top the charts. "Sign of the Times" came in at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. In terms of One Direction fame, Harry Styles and the crew claimed the number two spot in 2013 for "Best Song Ever." One year before, "Live While We’re Young" held that same spot. In 2015, "Drag Me Down" also rose to number three.

Fans aching to see Styles break out his new solo hit "Sign of the Times" can see him, starting Sept. 19 in San Francisco.
