TobyMac has shared he is gearing up to hit the road this fall for the 'TobyMac & DiverseCity Band: The Theater Tour!'
The 12-city run will bring the multi-platinum singer to parts of the East Coast and Midwest, starting with a November 1 performance in Roanoke, VA. From there he will play in cities including Richmond, Providence, Erie, and Beaumont closing with a final performance in Shreveport, LA on November 18.
News of the upcoming tour follows an unexpected release from TobyMac, who dropped a brand-new single titled “Everything” just last week. “Everything” comes after the release of another single, “I just need U,” which quickly rose to the top of the radio charts and Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs Chart, becoming his biggest single in six years.
TobyMac will be joined on tour by supporting act and fellow Christian music sensation Ryan Stevenson.
Who Is TobyMac?
TobyMac first emerged onto the music scene as a member of the Christian vocal trio DC Talk in 1987. The group put out their first self-titled album in 1989, followed by 1990’s Nu Thang which achieved gold status. Free at Last, their third album, went platinum and was accompanied by a wildly successful tour after which they were invited to play on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Aresnio Hall Show, gaining mainstream attention.
DC Talk’s fourth album, Jesus Freak, hit shelves in 1995 and went multi-platinum and lead to the massive 'Jesus Freak World Tour.' The trio released one final album, Supernatural, which also achieved platinum status, before going their separate ways in 2001. Although they have not performed together since (except for one show in 2005), DC Talk recorded several songs together since their hiatus.
TobyMac’s solo career was launched with the release of his debut album Momentum, which debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The album produced several hit singles, which went on to be featured in tv shows, films, and earned him his first Grammy nomination. It was followed by the release of Welcome to Diverse City (2004), Portable Sounds (2007), which debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200, and his first solo live album, Alive and Transported (2008), which gained him his first Grammy Award.
His fourth studio album, Tonight, was released in 2010, and was also nominated for a Grammy Award. His first full-length Christmas album, Christmas in Diverse City, was released in 2011 and includes songs from each of the Diverse City members as well as guest artists Leigh Nash, Owl City and Jamie Grace. Eye On It followed in 2012, and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the first Christian album to do so since 1997. His latest release, This Is Not a Test, was released in 2015 and debuted at the number four spot on the Billboard 200.
Several of TobyMac’s songs have been prominently featured in television shows, promotions, and Hollywood films. He has released many remix albums over the years, and is also a published author, having written a total of five books.
