Top shows on Broadway.
The list for top selling Broadway musicals this week remained nearly untouched from last week, except for the addition of a new contender: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which debuted April 23 in New York.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The New Musical on the Block

The musical, based on the Roald Dahl classic, came in at the number four slot this week. Dubbed the “new” musical, the site tells visitors to “step inside a world of pure imagination.”

So, why did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory make it into the top 5 slot this week? Well, it could be because it’s new, offering musical fans a new flavor. Tony Award winning Christian Borle, who stars as Wonka, is receiving praise in reviews, including one in Entertainment Weekly that states he “handles the near-impossible task remarkably well.”

Adapted from both the book and movie, the musical has a few twists, including Willy Wonka’s role as an undercover candy store owner in Charlie’s neighborhood. Rumor is there are a few more surprises, but you’ll have to get your golden ticket to find out.

Take a Bow: The Starring Weekly Lineup

Aside from the new kid (musical) on the block, the top spot went to Wicked, followed by Aladdin, The Lion King and School of Rock in the fifth slot. The lineup is nearly identical from last week, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory simply replacing Phantom of the Opera at No. 4.

Here’s a look at the full top 10 list for the week:

The Lion King
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
School of Rock
The Book of Mormon
Hello, Dolly!
The Great Comet of 1812
