We’re here to help.
We put together a letter anyone can use to explain to their family why you’ll be at the arena for Christmas. You’re welcomed to customize it for your own situation. J
Here it is:
December 25, 2016
To my loving family,
Thank you for the thoughtful gifts we unwrapped around the tree this Christmas morning. I am always grateful for the wonderful time we are so fortunate to spend together during the holiday season.
With those memories still warming my heart, I am writing to inform you that I plan to spend the rest of my Christmas Day with the NBA. This year’s Christmas Day games are simply too good to miss, and, like our joyous time this morning, a moment to be cherished in person.
Very soon I will be leaving for Quicken Loans Arena to see the rematch of last season’s thrilling finals series between the Warriors and our beloved Cavaliers. (Thank you, mom, for the gift of their special Christmas Day jersey, which I will proudly wear to the game!) This is the only time I can see Golden State visit Cleveland this year and, frankly, I just saw all of you at Thanksgiving. I know you’ll understand.
Rest assured that when I get home after the game I would love to spend time with you watching the rest of the Christmas Day schedule (my voice may be a little hoarse from all the cheering). I mean, just look at this slate of games:
The new-look Bulls are playing the Spurs in San Antonio
The exciting young Timberwolves team is taking on the Thunder in OKC.
The Clippers and Lakers play at Staples Center in warm, beautiful Los Angeles. We can cozy up in the den and it’ll be just like the Christmas vacation we always dreamed of taking!
Thank you again for the special time we shared this morning. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get to the arena in time for the Warriors pregame warmup routine. Merry Christmas.

PS – I will also be out of town on New Year’s Eve to see the Cavs play the Hornets in Charlotte. Happy 2017!
