Meet Lily Allen
English singer-songwriter Lily Allen discovered her musical calling at the ripe age of 11 when her school teacher began giving her singing lessons during lunch. She left school at the age of 15 to focus on her musical career, posting demos of her songs on her MySpace page. She was able to attract a fan base and score a record contract in 2005. Her first hit came in 2006 with the single, “Smile,” which peaked at number one on the U.K. Singles Chart. Allen’s debut album, Alright, Still, earned her nominations for the Grammy Awards, Brit Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Her second studio album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, debuted at number one in 2009 on the U.K. Albums Chart and ARIA Charts and was well received by critics. It yielded hit singles like “The Fear” and she was awarded a Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist at the 2010 show. In 2013 with her third album, Sheezus, earned her generally positive reviews and was supported by two singles, “Hard Out Here,” and “Air Balloon.”
