Highlights

Soccer at Fenway Park

For the first time in five years, fans had a rare opportunity to see a Boston soccer game featuring Liverpool FC in person when soccer came to Fenway Park on July 21. Liverpool lost to Spanish club Sevilla 2-1 in a back-and-forth game that kept fans on their toes and included an unusual amount of physicality for a friendly. The match was the second game in Liverpool’s three-game tour of the US.

Barcelona vs. Napoli Round 1

Over 57,000 soccer fans hit Miami’s Hardrock Stadium on August 7 to witness the first of a two-leg exhibition series between FC Barcelona and Napoli. Barca took the W with a 2-1 victory over the Italian club.

Barcelona vs. Napoli Round 2

Barcelona has done it again. The Spanish champions quickly took control of the Ann Arbor soccer game on August 10, winning 4-0 over Napoli in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people at Michigan Stadium. The second win comes just three days after Barca beat Napoli 2-1 in Miami, and marks the end of their US tour as the first-ever winners of La Liga-Serie A Cup.

What’s to Come

Mexico vs. Argentina

Soccer returns to the Alamo City this fall when Mexico vs. Argentina hits San Antonio at the Alamodome on September 10.
