Hootie & the Blowfish Tour 2019

Hootie & the Blowfish are gearing up to hit the road for their first full-scale tour in nearly 15 years, bringing the multi-platinum rockers to 44 cities across the US in 2019.

The “Group Therapy Tour” launches May 30 in Virginia Beach, VA and will travel coast-to-coast hitting cities like Tampa, New York, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and Nashville. The guys will wrap things up with a final performance at their alma mater, USC’s Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC, on September 13.

Fellow nineties rock stars Barenaked Ladies will be accompanying the group on the road as special guests.

The Grammy Award-winning band has also signed a new record deal ahead of their upcoming sixth studio album, marking their first release in 15 years. The album will arrive on the 25th anniversary of the group’s landmark debut album, Cracked Rear View.

“It's crazy to think that next year, 'Cracked Rear View' will be 25 years old,” the guys shared in a post to fans on social media. “We think it's time to celebrate... with you!”

Hootie & the Blowfish took a break from touring and recording in 2008, allowing front man Darius Rucker to pursue a solo career in country music. Rucker’s venture resulted in five studio albums, eight Number One singles, and a Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance for “Wagon Wheel” in 2013.

In the ten years since announcing their indefinite hiatus, the band has returned to the stage just a handful of times, most recently making an appearance at Jason Aldean’s “High Noon Neon Tour” in Atlanta, GA on July 21st.

Who Are Hootie & the Blowfish?

Hootie & the Blowfish was founded in the late 1980s by University of South Carolina students Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim “Soni” Sonefield. Combining elements of rock, soul, blues, folk, and pop, the band contrasted with the sound of their grunge contemporaries, setting them apart from the crowd. In 1994, they released their debut album Cracked Rear View to widespread critical acclaim.

Cracked Rear View went on to become the most popular album of 1995, selling more than 21 million copies on the strength of massive hit singles like “Only Wanna Be With You,” “Hold My Hand,” and “Let Her Cry.” The album has been certified platinum 21 times and was named the 19th best-selling album of all time in the US. Since making their ground-breaking debut, Hootie & the Blowfish have released four additional studio albums including Fairweather Johnson (1996), Musical Charis (1998), Hootie & the Blowfish (2003), and Looking for Lucky (2005).

In 2008, the band announced they would be taking a break from touring and recording for an indefinite amount of time so that front man Darius Rucker could pursue a solo career in country music. Rucker’s career took off instantly, yielding in five studio albums, eight number one singles, and one Grammy Award for his massive hit cover of the popular folk tune “Wagon Wheel.” In the years since announcing their hiatus, the band has reunited only a handful of times for live performances here and there. In 2018, they broke their silence by officially confirming a US tour and plans to release an all new album in 2019.
