Who Is Eric Clapton?
Three-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Eric Clapton is an English rock and blues guitarist who first emerged in the early 1960s as a member of the Yardbirds. Leaving the group in the mis ‘60s, he went on to play with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers before forming the power trio Cream in 1966 and later the blues rock group Blind Faith in 1969. Clapton launched his solo career with the arrival of the 1970s as he drew on major influences from artists like J. J. Cale and Bob Marley. By the time he released his debut album by the mid-‘70s, he had already established himself as one of the most prominent artists and rock guitarists in the world.
Considered the original “guitar hero,” Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time. He is the only artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton has taken home 18 Grammy Awards as well as a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to music. He has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
