Who Are Deep Purple?
Established in the UK in 1968, Deep Purple originally formed as a prog-rock band, eventually shifting to a heavier sound with the arrival of the 1970s. The group is considered pioneers in the heavy metal and modern hard rock genres, along with fellow brit-rockers Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, making up what has come to be known as “the unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal.” Despite undergoing several line-up changes and hiatus that spanned eight years (1976-1984), Deep Purple remains one of the most influential groups in modern rock history. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and have been Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees (specifically members Blackmore, Lore, Paice, Fillan, Glover, Coverdale, Evans, and Hughes) since 2016.
