The Return of Beyoncé
Fans last year were disappointed when the artist’s headlining performance in 2017 was postponed. But, it was for good reason — with twins on the way and due this summer, Beyoncé fans can expect her to return to the Coachella stage in all her glory for 2018.
So, where will that stage be…? Along with the announcement that Beyoncé is headlining 2018, Coachella organizers also confirmed the iconic musical festival will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif.
Coachella kicked off partying like it was 1999 — because it was. That year Rage Against the Machine, Chemical Brothers and Beck were among the headliners. A tradition was born. Yet it took a while to catch on.
Fans went without Coachella in 2000. The next year, the California musical festival was back — but only for one day. The 2001 festival included headliners Jane’s Addiction and The Roots. By 2002, it was Bjork and Jack Johnson, among others. It was in 2002 that Coachella expanded to a two-day festival. It grew to three days in 2007 and in in 2012 began to span two weekends (as it is now).
Today Coachella is considered one of the world’s most famous musical festivals. A 2016 Forbes Article described Coachella as “a cultural event that draws celebrities, floods social media feeds and sparks trends in fashion.” In short, it’s a big deal.
