Who is Bob Seger?
Heartland rocker Bob Seger first stepped onto the scene in 1961 as a locally successful Detroit-area musician. Hopping around from band to band for several years, Seger formed the Bob Seger System in 1968, producing his first national hit “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” which peaked at the number 17 spot on the charts. Unable to follow the success of his debut breakthrough he dropped the “System,” putting together the infamous Silver Bullet Band in 1973, and the rest is history.
Seger released his ninth-ever studio album, and his first with the Silver Bullet Band, Night Moves, in 1976. The album was released to critical acclaim and brought the artist a second wave of nationwide success, with three singles making the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Night Moves would go on to receive a certification of sextuple platinum.
Over the course of the next four decades, Seger would go on to release nine more albums alongside the Silver Bullet Band. He has sold more than 75 million albums around the world and has been inducted to both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A roots rocker, Seger’s songs often include lyrics relating to love and/or blue-collar themes. Among his many hits are songs like “Turn the Page,” “We’ve Got Tonight,” “Against the Wind,” and “Still the Same.” His mega-hit “Old Time Rock and Roll” from 1979’s Stranger in Town was listed as one of the Songs of the Century by the RIAA in 2001.
