Theater lovers are eager to see Aladdin, scooping up more tickets for the smash hit starring Adam Jacobs. With Casey Nicholaw as director and choreographer, plus new music from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, it’s possible we could see Aladdin in the top spot for weeks to come. The Lion King edged out Wicked for the number two spot on the list. Wicked is playing in the recently renovated Gershwin Theatre, so The Lion King will have its work cutout to keep its narrow lead.
Hamilton, the play with the highest overall revenue and easily the most talked about musical around the country, came in fourth, proving that it is still a draw after creator Lin-Manuel Miranda stepped down from the lead role last summer. With this week’s news that James Monroe Iglehart will join the cast this spring, look for Hamilton to put some serious heat on the top three.
Rounding out the top 10 best-selling shows on Broadway are Jersey Boys, followed by Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, The Front Page, The Book of Mormon, A Bronx Tale and The Present.
Other shows just missing the top 10 but coming on strong include Dear Evan Hansen, Beautiful and Waitress.
