When CIBC Theatre opened as Majestic Theatre in 1906, it was the tallest building—and the first million-dollar-plus venue—in Chicago. It was known for presenting vaudeville acts and hosted Harry Houdini’s legendary escapist performances until it closed during the Great Depression. It reopened in 1945 and became a venue for musical favorites such as Guys and Dolls, Carousel and South Pacific. While it has seen some major renovations, most of the original fixtures, ornate decor and mosaic floor in the lobby are still there today. The venue retains its old-world feel and intimate setting, much to the delight of theatergoers.

This venue is no stranger to big-name shows—CIBC Theatre has hosted the pre-Broadway world premieres of Movin’ Out, Kinky Boots and Spamalot. Other notable shows include popular productions like High School Musical, The Book of Mormon, Jersey Boys and Broadway musical hit Hamilton.

The theater opens 45 minutes prior to the start of a show, and the seating area opens 30 minutes before the show starts. Food and beverages are available in the lobby but may not be brought inside the theater. Souvenirs can be purchased in the lobby. Cameras and sound recording devices are not allowed inside the theater.
