When the Al Hirschfeld Theatre opened in 1924, it was considered one of the most luxurious and opulent venues on Broadway. It was designed in a Byzantine style with a spacious lobby, promenade, and curved balcony adorned with grooved columns, wrought iron and stained glass. Originally named the Martin Beck Theatre, its name was changed to the Hirschfeld Theatre in 2003 in honor of Al Hirschfeld, a celebrity caricaturist. The 1,424-seat theater is fast approaching its 100th anniversary and still continues to be as grandiose and popular as ever.

The Hirschfeld opened with the Viennese operetta Madame Pompadour, and since then it's hosted world-famous musicals, plays and revivals including Guys and Dolls, Hair, The Sound of Music and Into the Woods. Elf the Musical achieved a box office record in 2010 when it grossed more than $1.5 million over nine performances. The Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots, one of the most popular shows on Broadway is one of the most recent productions at The Hirschfeld.

The venue is easily accessible via public transportation, with multiple bus and subway stops located within a few blocks. There are also many parking garages and lots nearby along with some of Manhattan's finest restaurants. Hotels in the area include budget, midrange and upscale options. Times Square is less than two blocks away.
