Cadillac Palace Theatre has assumed several roles since opening as the Palace Theatre in 1926, but whether serving as a movie theater or a rock club, its distinctive design has made it a must-see when in Chicago. Inspired by the palaces of Fontainebleau and Versailles, architects George and Cornelius Rapp designed the theater as part of vaudeville’s legendary Orpheum Circuit. It boasts decorative mirrors and marble in the lobby, along with gold leaf and wood decorations on its surfaces.

Following an extensive renovation, restoration and renaming in 1999, Cadillac Palace Theatre returned to form with the premiere of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida. It was home to the pre-Broadway hit The Producers by Mel Brooks, and it hosted The Lion King and The Color Purple. It’s currently operated by Broadway in Chicago, and features stage productions and variety shows throughout the year.

The theater is located in the Chicago Loop area. It’s easily accessible by car and by public transportation, and parking is available a couple of blocks away. Several hotel options are on the same block, and numerous bars and restaurants are just a few steps away from its entrance.

The multilevel space includes orchestra, loge and balcony seating, and handicap-accessible seating is available as well. As a courtesy to other patrons, children under the age of 5 aren’t admitted to performances. The lobby typically opens 45 minutes before the start of the show, and the seating area is open 30 minutes before the curtain is drawn.
