Broadway's Wicked musical is a loose adaptation of Wicked the novel by Gregory Maguire. Wicked the musical offers a "back-story" to the Wizard of Oz. Long before Dorothy joins the story we follow the journey of two young girls on their path that would lead them to become the iconic personas Glinda ( the Good Witch of the North) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the East). Elphaba is born a bright shade of green and thus lives her life as an outsider. In collage she ends up rooming with the popular Glinda. Their buddy story is only one of several storylines and subplots in a carefully constructed, surprise-filled musical adventure.
